about

Building on a basis of blown out drum programming layered with abrasive noise and some of the sludgiest bass tones around, Haruspex pushes further into the nastier corners of heavy and electronic music with this release. As such, THE YEAR OF OUR LORD is the most logical expansion of Haruspex's creative vision as outlined in the 2019 tape THE WORDS OF CHRIST IN RED. Sonic maximalism bludgeons minimalist arrangements, repetitive patterns are pushed near to their breaking point, wretched vocals sit above pounding rhythmic instrumentation -- all in the pursuit of exorcising the most visceral feelings that sit heavy in the stomach, and the often accompanying thought that you will feel this way forever.

Having been founded specifically to marry the grating textures of noisier styles of music with a grounding sense of rhythm, Haruspex does so with careful attention to pacing and a general tendency towards brevity. But in taking the time to explore ideas more completely and broadening the range of influences incorporated, THE YEAR OF OUR LORD presents a more focused and cohesive collection of songs than 2019's demo, while still offering several directions through the murky sewers of extreme music for Haruspex to continue exploring.
